This world was not made for agnostics (IP)

This world was not made for agnostics, she said.
It's a believer's world. It's big and hard and unjust
and you've got to hang on to something,
or all alone you'll be crushed. Turn away if you must,
but commit yourself. Or you might as well be dead.

But what if our place is just spinning,
spinning on a mote in space with our music and war
and nothing watching as we create each day
a new reason not to lead or to follow but to live
until the worms munch down our atoms and spew out stars?
There's a beauty in that, I told her. And anyway
I have no belief to give.

But she shook her head. This world
was not made for agnostics, she said.
