ITINERANT SERVANT - BANK HOLIDAY - THE OBSERVER - SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Last week, while the weather was still warm, Lady and Man Servant were whisked away by a taxi that pulled into the drive of Omar Towers. At first, I thought maybe, just maybe, either one of them was travelling and that the other was just helping them get away. But alas no, neither of them returned for at least three days.
I realised neither of them would be back the next morning when an itinerant servant, Lady Servant to Lager Boy, came in to serve our breakfast. Mitsie, as usual, dived into her breakfast bowl, below stairs, as if she had not been fed for at least a week. Itinerant servant served my salmon delicacies in my private dining room. Being in a slight state of shock at the realisation both of my Servants were away I sniffed the breakfast served, huffed and wandered off back to my day room. Itinerant lady servant did try to pick me up and I assume to put me near my breakfast.
How forward?
I hissed at her, raised my claws and was promptly placed back on my divan. Obviously, my own Servants did not brief this itinerant servant on the etiquette that looking after me entails. At least I did not draw blood this time as I did with another member of the servant species.
For the whole of my own Servants’ absence I feigned total disinterest in any meals that the itinerant servant presented. By the third day I must admit I was getting just a tad hungry but I was not going to give in, just yet.
My own Servants returned together. I was so pleased to see them, well Lady Servant especially as I got a big cuddle from her. Then she checked my dining setting and saw there was no food.
‘Oh poor Omar, have you not been fed since breakfast? Let me get something for you to eat.’
A meal was served exactly like the ones the itinerant servant dished up and I ate heartily. Life was back to normal and not a moment too soon.
From the various bags that my Servants unpacked I could see that one of them at least had been to Scotland. None of the bags divulged a blue goldfish which was most disappointing.
This weekend is a bank holiday and as fully expected the weather has deteriorated. Today especially, Sunday, it started to rain just after my Servants left to visit the equines. They eventually returned just in time to serve lunch and Man Servant was totally soaked and appeared to be very cold. I made a point of getting in his way and bothering him to serve my lunch rather than Lady Servant before he could get changed.
All of us, Mitsie included, have had a rather pastoral Sunday listening to the wind and rain. Mitsie has found a new place to sleep below stairs. Lady and Man Servant joined me on my divan where we read Horse and Hound and The Observer.
Man Servant and I usually start our read of The Observer by seeking out Servant Jay Rayner’s Restaurant Review. We both enjoy his witheringly acidic comments when he has a bad experience. This week was the first bad experience he has had for a long time so his vitriol was really rather venomous. We both wonder how long before the Café Royal in London changes its servant chef and associated menus?
Servant Trump has a two-page spread in the centre of the newspaper today. Thank goodness this publication is tabloid and not broadsheet as he would have had twice as much coverage. The comment and analysis pages are largely devoted to BREXIT with a small leader on how school summer holidays increase the gap between the rich and the poor. I know that children from the servant species return to school soon which will be great relief as there are two or three near Omar Towers who have done nothing else all summer except go up and down the street on their bikes or scooter. It is a great shame they have had nothing else to do.
Since Servant Wenger left Man Servant’s favourite football club Man Servant has not been so interested in their results so far in the Premiership. Well, they did lose their first two games and were fifth from the bottom of the table. Yesterday though the fight back began with them winning their first match of the season against a minor club in London. Man Servant has become slightly more interested.
Thankfully the rain that seems to have lasted all day has now stopped and the forecast is for a dry Bank Holiday Monday. That means my Servants are going to be out and about but hopefully for only a few hours at a time as I have not seen any suitcases being packed; yet.

I am Delilah, and this is
I am Delilah, and this is being typed by the servant of myself and Zsa Zsa. I have a new game for Omar. Get your local vet to put either you or Mitsie on special expensive food that only the one of you is supposed to have, and then swap bowls at every opportunity. Learn how to push any covers off the bowls. This, I promise you, provides hours of entertainment and some highly amusing noises from your servant.
Your diary is always enjoyed by us all.
