Just Words

this room smells clean
it's not home
but for now
it will do.
the hum of the extractor fan
smothers all other noise
except the sound of fingers on the keyboard.
my window is two stories up
the windows bolted shut
deaden the passing traffic
still audible
just.
the light in the ceiling
is relentless in it's eye scorching brightness
the orange hue given to everything
makes the white surface of the walls
unbearable.
Cigarettes are two flights of stairs away
no vodka to keep me company
just flower patterned duvet
and green curtains
but the conversation is one way
i won't speak to them.
my breathing is heavy
as my eyes flit around the room
searching for something to focus on
but now...
i scratch my chin to kill the itch
hidden under beard
just words now
just words.
