The nail polish on her
fingernails reminds you of
sea foam, and her upturned
lips, tidal waves.
She says that the moon
drags her to shore, and
because of that, you're always left
asking for more. The town speaks
about her as if folklore.
Tell me, do you believe
in mermaids?
You find glitter littered
about her skin, as if scales
and you can always taste
the salty sea upon her breasts.
She refuses to eat fish, and
when she eats her seaweed salads, she
smiles, crinkling up her nose, and says, "Delish."
You've learned to relish
the parts of her that stay.
The rest, you still crave.

Joining this site is the best thing you ever did, kid - it's really bringing you out of your shell and it's lovely to see you posting happier pieces as well as grim, gritty ones. We all suffer in different ways and to different degrees, and writing is the best therapy in the world.
