Little Kitten

Once upon a time
was a little kitten
in amongst the long grass
no view of home
no stars to guide him
no other animals in sight
only moonlight to keep him company
all alone little kitten curls up
only noise he hears
is the beating of his heart
unable to purr or meow
hides his paws he does
against his chest
his tail round over his head
like a hat and cushion
his eyes sad
his heart beating slower
as frost and ice move in closer
little kittens fur
starts to turn crispy
as he tries to lick the frost
it melts a little for a drink
though not a lot
as frost turning his lips blue
his mouth drying up
unable to move his tail anymore
or raise his ears
to hear others or any danger
no strength to move
to fight the frost off
as ice covers little kitten
cold he is
but cant cry out
as little kitten born with no voice
so all alone
it time
for little kitten to go now
to be a star we will admire
when we look above
as he closes his eyes
for the very last time
we shall remember
brave little kitten all alone
that cold lonely night
and never cried a single tear
