the deep now

I can sense you…
Here
Within this static place
Where time seems suspended.
I can feel that you are somewhere
nearby
Though I do not believe we have ever met.
Since when have you been here
Inside this blister of air?
Years?
Minutes?
Were you perhaps expecting me?
You,
who are so present,
Yet so indistinct,
What sort of agent might you be?
Could you be a radio frequency,
Droning through my cells?
Or a ripple of liquid helium
Quivering near Absolute Zero?
Might you simply be a figment of my imagination,
some consequent, magnetised angel?
Or a sleeping dragon
About to stir?
You, who belong to this stillness,
Will you not tell me your name?
Will you not take me with you?
Across those oscillating fields…
And down deeper into the cavern…
Will you not draw me out,
With the torque of your currents?
If I were to ask,
Would you not tell me…
How long is now?
How vast?
How sudden?
And how far into it
may I disappear?
