EVER SO SLIGHTLY

You’re ever so slightly in love with her, aren’t you?
That twinkle in your eye used to come out for me;
Like a brilliant star in a sky of darkness.
Now the only romance we see is on TV.
You’re ever so slightly in love with her, I know.
The excitement of new interest flushes through you.
A romantic urge is gripping at your being.
I understand, because we once had that spark too.
You’re ever so slightly in love with her, it’s clear.
Allow me to go now and accept we’ll lose touch,
For my eyes have told my heart the pain would hurt more,
When ever so slightly becomes ever so much.
