VICTORIA

Victoria lay there, virtually lifeless. Her body had been reduced to virtually nothing.
"You know you've brought this on yourself," I told her. Of course, she hadn't brought it on herself - the 'illness' had brought itself on her.
It had got itself into her and was eating away at her. It had consumed her; her vivaciousness, her cheerfulness, her usual self...I could barely remember what her usual self was, it had been such a while since I'd seen it.
Even Victoria's eyes looked different; the spark had been placed with a blankness.
She had always been bubbly and energetic. Then a sarcastic comment was made, about her weight. Some silly, thoughtless comment. Victoria wasn't even that heavy.
First Victoria went on a diet. Then she started to exercise. Then exercised even more.
She soon slimmed down and seemed pleased with her weight loss.
But it didn't stop there. She was no longer dieting, she was starving herself.
She pushed herself way too hard.
I hated seeing her like this. I hated her being like this.
"If you die Victoria, I'll kill you," I said.
There was a slight sparkle in Victoria's eyes as she briefly laughed.
The nurse came into the room, seemingly trying to acting positive.
"She has to get better," I said to the nurse, "You can't just...let her die."
"We'll do all we can," assured the nurse.
"Did you get that?" I said to Victoria, "They'll help you if you help yourself. You need to eat. Just imagine you've got to put on weight for a love scene with Keanu Reeves or something."
The nurse frowned at me.
"She loves Keanu Reeves," I pointed out.
"I'm more of a George Clooney woman myself," the nurse replied. "How about you?"
"No, I don't think I'd make a very good George," I joked.
Victoria tutted and laughed.
"Well, you had better be going soon," the nurse reminded me.
"And you'd better get better," I told Victoria.
So I left the place, for a while, as 'instructed' by the nurse.
The last time I'd saw Victoria, she was fragile and frail.
When I went back to the place, Victoria had died. The fragile Victoria, that was.
Now she was more like her 'old' self. She was heading towards a healthy weight and looked well.
"So, where's he to then?" said Victoria.
I puzzled, "Who?"
Victoria playfully huffed, "Keanu bloody Reeves!"
"Oh, what are you like?!" I said, "I wouldn't bring him in here, would I?"
"So, he's outside then, is he?"
"Yeah," I nodded, "He's outside, somewhere. He could be thousands of miles away, but he's out there!"
Victoria laughed. "I'll be out there, soon."
"Yes, you will," I said. "And when you are back out there, we'll make damn sure you never have to come in here again."
