When “I love you” becomes “I loved you”,
Warm feelings freeze into dismay.
How can the one you want not want you,
While love in your heart pounds away?
When “I love you” is now “I loved you”,
Disbelief turns into despair.
What did you do that was so awful,
That your loved one ceases to care?
When “I loved you” replaces “Love you”,
Your being needs time to decide,
That it’s better to hear “I loved you”,
Than “I never loved you; I lied.”

Gives the phrase 'Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all' a whole new meaning. Really something to think about when you've been hurt.
