Captain My Captain

Our Captain has sailed the old mate shakily said
He’s off to distant lands where brave men fear to tread
With no crew nor map or even a compass true
May god’s hard hand simply guide him through?
Or has he gone to where the shades ring blue?
And the world seems just a little darker here today
The laughter’s gone but the old cracked lines simply stay
Yet, I bet that there are butterflies on the wing in heaven
For in their beating wings a spirit never can deaden.
And in their heartbeat, tears of joy fill the skies,
Amid the howling pain of human screaming cries.
For a rainbow arched a curve, and in its light,
A dove is seen to float upon its wayward flight.
For the captain made us laugh and made us cry.
He pointed to us all and shouted do or die!
So on the table I take my place and with bold voice proudly proclaim:
My captain My captain!
I stand by you this day!
