"Ok, girls" called out Mrs Zanted. "Put down your pens. Now, who'll read their's out first. We'll go in alphabetical order. Aniie, you're up first.2
I sighed, and shuffled to the front of the classroom. I took a deep breath, and began:
Auntie Aileen came to stay with us for a week. I am forced by my mother to call her 'auntie' even though she's horrible to me. Whenever she comes down, she buys expensive presents for everyone except me. A bottle of expensive perfume for my mum, a new game for my sister, Amy, for her games console. What do I get? A fitness DVD, implying I'm fat. Or a large book like "Harry Potter", even though I can't read. When I pointed this out, my mum told me to stop being so ungrateful. And then there are the days out. One time, Auntie Aileen took Amy and I to the zoo. I was scared of the lions, and Auntie Aileen ran off and left me. Another time, she took us to the park. she brough a large magnum for Amy. But I got a lemon lolly. Not even an ice lolly.
Anyway, she came don, and brought expensive presents with her.
"For my youngest niece, the latest Tomb Raider."
"Wow, thanks Auntie Aileen!" said Amy, positively beaming.
"And for my baby sister, Adele, a bottle of the most expensive red wine, inported all the way from France."
"Oh, Aillen, you shouldn't have. Thanks," and she reached over to plant a kiss on Auntie Aileen's cheek.
I shuddered. My turn now. What had I got? A packet of dog biscuits? Or a smack round the ear?
Auntie Aileen looked down at me. "Oh, Annie, I'm so sorry, I forgot to buy you something. You see, the other presents were quite expensive, and I didn't have enough money. Let's see what I've got in here."
She started delving in her suitcase; getting to the pit. She pulled out something red and round and slapped it in my hand. It was an apple.
"Well, what do you say, Annie?" Asked Mum.
"Thank you Auntie Aileen," I said, as graciously as I could.
"Oh, stop sulking, Annie, were you hoping it was chocolate? I'm sure Auntie Aileen would have brought you some if she could."
Later on that night, Mum and Auntie Aileen enjoyed the bottle of wine. Amy eenjoyed her new game. I, however, didn't enjoy my apple.
