As thou walk'st in sorrow's shadow
Eastbound sojourn so hearts might mend
May spirits of most kindly nature
Bear thee gentle as you homeward bend.
Would sun sweet faces bid thee welcome
Warm enfoldst thee in loving arms
For long lost caresses to touch thy forelock
Soothe thy soul as honeyed balm.
May silent presence draw communion
Times of quiet to bless profound
May distant memories become thy anchor
Joy renewed from sight and sound.
And when time comes to wend thy footsteps
Turn thee home from home again
I pledge my hand to hold its soulmate's
My heart thy harbour to safe remain.
