Iberian Rhapsody

Cicadas in ceaseless trilling
Mediterranean in shimmering blue
Hot zephyrs caress the Sierras
as I lie here and think of you
Your gaze like fire consumed me,
I burned, inflammed by the thrill;
You tripped the light fantastic
with moves that beguiled my will.
I was blinded by crimson passion
Couldn't smell your lust for blood
Didn't hear the roar for my murder
till I'm crumpled in dust and mud.
Heavy hearted, I couldn't look upwards
Slowfooted, couldn't dull your pace
Dolt-minded, I kept on believing
Plunged deep into Death's embrace.
How we danced the fandango deadly
Quicksilver you teased with such art
but you worried, wooed and won me
then lanced me, and cut me apart.
Cicadas are now just weeping
as oceans maraud the shore
Hot winds torch my entreaties
that you'll love me as before.
