Dear Friend,
For that is what I want you to be, my dearest friend.
For life. It would be such a privilege.
I promise you, it is the best, the most efficient, the most sustainable status.
If we contract to keep it no higher than that level, it would be perfect.
We would not have fights or emotional strops, and not be able to get over things.
We will not live in each other's back pockets.
Or be at a loss for words if I had to, say, go hide in my man cave for maybe three weeks straight. Be alone and be sad or something.
Or you could go off and have a girlie weekend, look at other guys, and forget about me entirely.
I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't feel slighted in the slightest. I'll just go climb a wall.
Or have a cold shower, that's all. It's perfectly fine.
And then we could be professionals when we work together. Strictly business, you know. There would be so much less stress, there would be no tension between us.
I could yell at you for instance, if you parked the car badly, bumping in front and behind as you manoeuvred.. God! woman. And you wouldn't react with big puppy dog eyes filling with tears at my right to yell at you.
Or you could bombard me with work emails all day. I may, or may not respond to any of them. And it would be OK with you.
We'd meet after work, and have interesting food somewhere, and you would not have held a grudge against me at all.
You would drive me home afterwards to drop me off, and we could even shake hands, and not hug. Or kiss.
We needn't play cat's cradle with our hands.
I wouldn't have to stroke your hair, or cup your small face in my large hands.
You wouldn't have a need for laying your head on my chest to check out my skipped heart beats.
We'd be - for lack of a better word - mates. How good is that?
We would travel together of course. That's perfectly in order. We both love it, so why not, right? We could have twin bedded rooms everywhere we go. Or sleep in separate sleeping bags under the stars.
We could see and taste the world together. Run away from everyone and everything if we wanted to.
Our life together would be so uncomplicated. So transcended. A relationship that is not a relationship.
Really. I think it is perfection. Don't you think?
What do you think?
