Running

Over the mountains and the seas
Running away so hurt won't swallow me
Turning my gaze from land to hills to skies
So I won't look at what is in your eyes
Oh I've walked along on many a winding road
Listened to strangers' tales of woe as they unfold
I have plodded cobbled stones and ancient chalk
Tuned in to people's cold, sad and angry talk
I have looked at many faces lined in pain
Turned corners just to face the same again
I have heard the songs of deepest soul's lament
Heard how hearts are hardened and would not relent
Seen how broken lives are lived in disarray
Know mine's the same, so I have run away
But how many miles would you have me contend
For my desiccated heart to start to mend?
You're the face that binds my many unspoken words
Stemmed songs of love from this poor tethered bird
You hold the key that'll set my heart ablaze
Put an end to all my lonely, pointless days.
How I long to soar with you to taste and see
through each others's eyes the world as it can be
Come and bid me stop my ever running away
Let me run to you, find rest for all my days.
