The day will come
when you and I
make dust clouds bloom behind
as we escape towards sunrise
Hair streaming against screaming zephyrs,
sun blasted flecks buffeting our cheeks
we would streak, burn rubber
rise and fall with an ever winding road
that meets, greets us each new day
with the smiles, frowns of yet unmet places
Towards dusk
in the shadow of purple mountains
glowering from a full day's bake
you would dive deep, headlong to slake
your thirst for unknown billows
I would follow, screeching at
crashing cold from blistering burn
We'd laugh in the fronds of water lilies
as we frighten frogs mid leap
sweep wander dust from our sunkist eyes
Then we would fall, fresh
upon good red earth, upon each other
melt with gladness in our limbs, now heavy
heartened by the evensong of cicadas
twittering thanksgiving for the gift of days
