Rocky the Gorilla - Chapter 1 - Rocky the gorilla goes camping

 

This is the story of a big gorilla who lived in a huge African jungle in Kenya. His name was Rocky and his friends were Jacky the hyena, Jill the fox, Haza the lion and Jojo the chimpanzee.  One day they went camping on a beach where they played a guessing game.  Rocky started off by imitating a monkey. Funnily enough nobody was able to make out which creature which surprised Rocky.

Jacky asked, “Is it an orangutan?”

Rocky replied, “No.”

Haza asked, “Is it a rhino?”

Rocky replied, “No way dude, come on, think about it guys. What animal am I?”

Jill was thinking really hard. Then she replied, “Are you a dinosaur?”

Rocky became astonished and burst out with laughter, “No, I’m not.”

“OK Rocky, we give up, what are you?” Haza said.

Rocky rolled his eyes and went, “Duh, I’m playing a monkey, come on you guys, that was so obvious.”

 Everyone said, “Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!”

Rocky asked, “Who would like to go next?”

Haza said, “I will.”

He started enacting something he thought was completely obvious, which was people on a beach laying under umbrella and waves splashing at their feet. The animals couldn’t figure out what he was doing.

Rocky asked, “Is it a zebra?” which made all the animals laugh. “What’s so amusing, guys?” Rocky asked.  “Spit it out, dudes.”

But they continued laughing. Rocky shrugged, whatever. Haza nodded his head in disbelief and enacted people stretching their arms while swimming but still found a blank audience.

“Guys, how much more obvious do you want me to make it? It’s simple, I don’t know why you guys put in so much effort in thinking.” They still had no clue so the lion sighed, “Guys, they were people swimming.”

Then it struck them, they were on a big beach outside the jungle, why didn’t they go swimming? They ran down the beach with excitement and jumped into the sea splashing each other, laughing whilst having banter. They spent all day there from evening to night that they barely noticed when it became dark but once it did, they stopped playing and got out of the waves.

Rocky said, “Woooooow! We had no idea we spent so long in the sea.”

Haza was surprised as he. “Yeah dude, neither did I to be honest.”

Rocky and the rest decided that since it turned night, they should start a camp. They collected pieces of wood from the jungle and put them together to make fire and sat around it putting their arms out to feel the heat.

Haza said, “This is a nice feeling. It helps me relax more.”

Rocky agreed. “You got that right, Haza.”

Jojo said, “I must say it’s been a long time since we went camping.”

Rocky said, “Yeah, it’s different from what we usually do.”

Haza said, “I thought of a story.” 

Jill said, “Let’s hear it then.”

Haza began. “Once upon a time, there was a grumpy lion who never had much adventure in his life. One day he found wood so he made a fire and sat relaxing till he slept. Can you guess who that might be?”

Everyone said, “You.”

Haza smiled. “Yes.”

Rocky said, “I thought we were your friends and you didn’t mention us being with you. I didn’t see this selfish side of you ever. You should feel ashamed.”

Haza said, “Dude, chill out, it’s a short story.”

Rocky angrily replied, “Haza, I don’t care long or short, the point is you didn’t think it necessary to mention us. Say sorry.”

Haza said, “No, because you are getting worked up over a silly story and why is it always about you? Don’t I have a life too?”

Rocky said, “Yes, but with us and we helped you through your tough times. I’m not talking to you till you apologise.”

This time Haza replied angrily. “Rocky, this is getting ridiculous. I’m leaving.”  

The other animals said, “Rocky’s right, Haza. You should have mentioned us too.”

Haza got up in fury. “Whatever, dudes,” he said and stormed off.

After a little while when he realised they meant what they said, he came back holding his ears. “I’m sorry, Rocky and the rest. I’ll never say such a story again. Happy now, guys?”

They all got up and hugged him which made Haza smile.  They were now playing the game where they were imitating each other and they laughed and had fun but Haza upset Rocky again when it was his turn by imitating him as a grumpy gorilla which the
others found funny.

Rocky said, “Shut up, you guys, and Haza, what is this game you’re playing with me? First you upset me by not mentioning me and now this nonsense. I’m not always grumpy, so stop mocking me. 

Haza said, “Take it in the light spirit, Rocky,” to which Rocky replied, “No, you apologise or we’re breaking up.”

Haza said, “Suit yourself.”

That surprised Rocky.

Jacky said, “I’m afraid we have to agree with Haza this time, Rocky.”

Rocky became astonished. “Jacky, you silly girl, he made fun of me and you agree with him?”

Jill said, “Even we agree Rocky.”

Rocky got up. “Fine, you guys suck as my best friends anyway and I regret it.” He stormed off grunting away this time.

After a little while, he returned and went to the big park and sat on the bench to sulk. But after thinking about it calmly, he realised what his friends said made sense and he should takes things lightly sometimes. So he got off and get rid of this nature of taking things to heart, which really did make him grumpy after all, so he went back to the beach to apologise.

 Rocky said, “I’m sorry, Haza and friends. I was unreasonable and it was a silly game. Can you forgive me please?”

They forgave him and played the game and played other games then later they went back into the jungle.
