A Picture of Eden

The one that got away,
That's what you're meant to be
The one little regret in life
The thing I'm not meant to see.
Everyone says you're not my type
And I know inside it's true,
So if I'm not supposed to have it
Why is it so hard to forget you?
Of course I can see the logic,
The other, the one to be mine
Toe-curlingly wonderful in every way
But it's you I think of all the time.
What do you see when you close your eyes,
And would you betray your soul?
Take the wonder and security,
Or the passion and beauty untold?
Do you ever get the feeling
When you first meet someone new
That soul and soul are connected
That they, like you, are true?
Do you see the candles burning
And the sparkle in their heart?
Do you watch them play their game
And do you play your given part?
I wish I had all the answers
I want to know which way to go;
Follow my head or follow my heart?
Right now, I just don't know.
I want to be good,
But humanity hinders me
In a world of disappointment
Some things just weren't meant to be.
But something about you screams to my soul,
An unnatural beauty;
A truth still untold.
