On the train

As soon as I hopped aboard,
the words closed in and we were off.
'But I don't know where I am,' I sighed.
'Don't worry,' someone said, ' – you're still in Context.
Relax. Enjoy the ride.' 'Okay,' I said.
Unreassured.
There was a funny sound – definite homophone.
'Is that meant to happen?' I said.
'Not sure,' the voice replied. 'There was a definite bump - we're going through Syntax - strange place.
Probably just running a test. Let's see. Probably won't happen again.'
'Okay,' I said.
Unconvinced.
'Wait up,' I muttered, ' – is this the Literal line?
I wanted to go via Metaphorical.'
'I think it might be – I never worry,
'cos I get off at Rhyme mostly - only
occasionally as far as
Rhythm – and no further tho',' the voice said.
'Wise, ' I said.
Unimpressed. 'I've always got to get to Imagery,
so I can change for Meaning,' I added
… opined even. 'Bloody pain.'
