ACCORDING TO THE LEA

According to the lea
near the woodland’s edge,
spring has once again returned:
Here’s what the lea said.

The deer have come down off the mountains
now that the snow is gone.
They’ve made new paths across the green
where plays the little fawn.

There’s the rabbit tracks around the glade.
They’re all doing the “Bunny Hop”
while Mamma and Papa Red Fox
teach their young all to “Foxtrot.”

Those dandelions have arrived
with their bright sunny faces
and the little field mice are awake
and running their foot races.

The wrens are singing in the willows
and there’s a buzz among the bees
that there’ll be a good honey season;
according to the lea.
