PUPPY TROUBLE

I have a little puppy.
He is black with curly hair.
Sometimes he gets in trouble
because he follows me everywhere.
He gets in a lot of mischief
being places he should not,
like climbing up to windows
knocking over flower pots.
He chases me in the meadow
and gets burdock in his hair;
then we have to comb and tug
to get them out of there.
That makes him unhappy
and then he yips and cries
but he still runs in the meadow
chasing bees and butterflies.
He chases frogs down on the marsh
and even digs for worms
but barks at them and runs away
when the worms wiggle and squirm.
He likes to chase the chipmunks
in the wall by the elm tree
and he even chases flashlight beams;
He’s as silly as can be…
And when I go to bed at night
he goes too. He wants to sleep with me.
He is a very special puppy
and when I pat him on his head
he looks up and licks my nose
and jumps up on my bed…
But when he hears Daddy coming
off the bed he goes.
We try to be real quiet
so Daddy will not know.
He knows he’s not supposed to be there
but I said I’d never tell.
My puppy is my favorite pal
and we get along real well
but sometimes we get in trouble
when he gets caught on my bed.
I get a real sound scolding
and he gets banished to the shed.
