Doorbell, and the reassuring presence of Socrates

The doorbell tones vary,
stray electrical impulses
share the airwaves, create
impressions of a visitor,
who isn’t there.
False connections
spark impulses
tripping tunes into play.
Once in a while,
variations alert me
to a caller, and
I am always surprised,
the heart still – still!
needs to connect,
now and then.
I try to remember
why.
The cocoon of familiar
comforts,
and Socrates reassures,
again-
‘Pleasure is the absence of pain’
