Well at last we reach the end of the month and pay day. Not that pay
day was that exciting. I managed to put a little bit into the wedding
fund though.
Yesterday I ordered our cake. Actually it will be a huge pile of
individually iced cakes. It's hard to describe but will be absolutely
beautiful. If I break out in spots on the big day I'll just wave
everyone past me saying "never mind me, just look at the cake!". I'm
sure my other half will be googling over it. He loves little cakes,
especially little iced ones. He will probably be in all the photos
gazing longingly at the cake.
Meanwhile, I need to sort out my parents. I have done lots of wedding
stuff with my mother not realising that she hasn't been relaying it all
to my father. Now he is completely in the dark and wondering what his
role is. I think I will phone him tonight and try to sort things out.
Much as I want to keep them happy, it will not be the traditional
wedding they had dreamed of. No best man, no bridesmaids, no speeches,
no giving me away, and the bridal couple will be arriving together.
They want to see a provisional guest list. The thing is, the guest list
as far as we're concerned is final. It already includes several of my
parents' friends so that'll have to do for them. I hear these little
pleas of "but what about Uncle whatsit? who never really was an uncle
and what about your father's best man?" This is a man I have never met
in 33 years. I think my dad has seen him only once in 33 years even
though they both live in the UK. He is a man from my dad's past, a man
before his married life. I know practically no-one or nothing about my
father's life before his marriage. This has always been a taboo subject
in our family. How weird if this best man who knows it all suddenly
came to my big day.
Do you know that by law a premises where a wedding is being held cannot
be locked? The door must remain open for possible objectors to the
wedding to arrive. I wish I hadn't known that. I keep imagining R's ex
standing at the back either objecting or congratulating us. Either of
which would be truly awful.
Today I am waiting for delivery of garden furniture. Any time between
9am and 6.30pm. We paid ?20 for this privilege, just for the delivery
that is. Zzzzzzz. It is so boring and the thing is, you wonder whether
they are ever going to turn up at all. Or whether they will deliver all
the requested items. Zzzzzzzz. The wait continues. I know they will
come just when I go to wash my hair.
