falling body

thank you for always
providing the resilience to go on
thank you for granting me perseverance, charisma
and the insight to hear what providence has to say
thank you for stranding me here
amid this ocean of instances
so precious and violent,
so lonely…
*
thank you for making the air
and the clouds
and the translucency of reality
indistinguishable enough
that I might switch tomorrow for yesterday
or keep a single evening from long ago
reverberating in the depths of my heart
*
thank you for showing me what absolute happiness is
and then hiding it away from me
thank you
for allowing me to grasp my inner fortitude
and utilise it to the utmost
*
thank you for making me deformed and strange
so that I may never know true completeness
thank you for tingeing each hour of my life
with an intrinsic sadness
and a perpetual desire for the void
*
thank you
for offering me the power to overcome myself
to travel far and make my wishes come true
thank you for filling me with the ambition to be successful
but not the talent to achieve it
*
thank you for the faculty to appreciate the scent of ethyl,
burning cedar from a winter’s chimney
and the salt water breeze coming off a beach at twilight
thank you for allowing me to fall
through the brink of consciousness,
to have seen the faces I’ve seen
and heard the music I’ve heard
*
thank you for not revealing all the answers
so that I may wake up one morning
on the other side of now
and realise that one is never
more or less than the total sum
of their dreams
