Family Tree

What will you find when
You shake my family tree?
A king, a pauper, some fabled
History shaper.

Perhaps a murderer will
Jump you from behind,
Or a pathetic filthy urchin
Comes a begging for a crumb.

My tree stands rooted for all to see.
I haven't pruned the branches,
Nor brashed an errant twig.
It isn't famous, it don't stand tall.

It's not a thing of beauty,
It doesn't make you gasp.
Ordinary, shapeless kindred souls
Would reign on you
If you should shake my family tree.
