I have been in this band for some four years now, and we have had
some reasonable chart success with our music. I'm not entirely sure
whether it has anything to do with our experimental use of atonalism in
the classic rock genre or the fact that we have a cat playing the
drums. It is rather unusual to have a cat on drums but then we really
had very little choice in the matter. We auditioned three different
people for the job but the cat had talent and we were up against a
somewhat stringent recording and touring schedule. The fact that our
drum kit is just over a foot tall also clinched it for the cat as he
had no trouble at all with the set up and demonstrated his virtuosity
with a complex jazz percussion work out.
I think all in all, we made the right choice but there has been a bit
of a clash of egos between Dave on bass and the cat, you know. Dave
always fancied himself as the pretty boy of the group but people have
taken to stroking the cat between numbers and making a right old fuss
of it. Anyway, the tension has been mounting backstage and to be
honest, I'm not certain what the outcome is going to be. One of them
will have to go, and I think the smart money is on Dave, although that
would be a shame as I think that the cat will have considerable trouble
replicating Dave's harmonies, especially on songs like "Spoon bender"
and "Locked in the loft".
