Floating Brain

When I was in the 6th grade our teacher had a morbid fascination with
the human body, and for months he had a real human brain in a glass box
full of formaldehyde on his desk. He originally brought it in as an
accessory to a science lesson. At first we would gather around it,
sometimes just a couple of us, and discuss the brain. We'd point out
the details of it, and wonder how thought traveled through a big hunk
of meat in our heads. But then the lesson was over, and the brain
mysteriously stayed. And that was how we spent the spring of 1984,
myself and my classmates, greeted every morning by a gray, floating
brain that probably thought terrible things about us.
