i'm not dreaming

she said that she could come and go whenever she wished
*
she said that she might be standing behind me for hours
and I wouldn’t even realise she was there
*
she said she never appeared when others were nearby
because she preferred to have me to herself
*
I remember that she smelled of polyurethane and crayons
and that her movements caused the back of my neck to tingle
*
she said that she could manipulate gravity to bend areas and perimeters
and then balance an hour in the palm of her hand
*
she told me many things,
when we were together
*
she said that in the air around me
there are a vast number of signals and frequencies
travelling the electromagnetic spectrum,
bathing my cells
with a continuous mist of megahertz
*
she said that there is
a daylight shining in through the curtains
and a heat rising from the desert floor
and a snow falling in the dead of night
making a music only red giants can hear
*
she said that she knows who the person is
pressed beneath my skin
and that she can commune with them
via the electrons
whirling deep down inside of my intuition
and by way of the zephyr
just before it rains
*
she said that I could trust the sound of her voice
even though it is not audible
*
she said that I could close my eyes
and come with her
to those places lost amid my remembrance
*
she told me that inside my dreams
there is a large grey house
with high ceilings and spacious rooms
she says a piano can be heard playing from the second floor
and that the trees at the end of the garden
cast shadows of the deepest indigo
*
she said twenty-five
twenty-four
twenty-three
twenty-two
twenty-one
twenty
nineteen
eighteen
seventeen
sixteen
fifteen
fourteen
thirteen
twelve
eleven
ten
nine
eight
seven
six
five
four
three
two
one
zero…
*
she said that she is now speaking to
the innermost part of my perception
*
she said that we have arrived within the zone
where no one else can go
*
I see butterflies frozen in midair
and clouds being pulled retrograde
across an ultramarine sky
*
how can this be, I ask?
this is surely nothing more
than just a dream?
she tilted her head and said:
“I’m not dreaming”….
