Intimacy

rooks swoop and swirl about the setting sun sky
we watch them amazed
the myriad black shapes they form
over moorish trees
how they dart through the air as one -
like fish in the water
spontaneously
we embrace
kiss
search one another for that emptiness inside
shine the light of our presence there
trusting one another with the keys
that open up
share
understand
the beauty
of being next to one another's skin
cared for
understood
no longer judged
just
accepted
for who we are
the best things in life are free:
the fields
earth
river
sea
wind
sky
trees
hills
love
I know the weight of their disapproval
hangs over our heads like the gallows
money says: 'NO'
but our hearts say: 'YES'
for that place where we belong
they can never know
they might try to understand
think they do what's best
but it is a deeper thing than money ever can be
or was
it is a sacred space
we were not created by money
but by love
by trust
by each other's touch
I am afraid of losing you
afraid of the shadows
of the things which eat my heart
before I met you I was walking in a fog
in a maze of my own design
I've known what it is to go mad
to analyse things too much
to be misunderstood in a world of passing fashions
I was like a piece of flotsam
floating aimlessly upon the tides of civilization
washed up on countless shores
again and again
weatherworn and pale
wondering where I belong...
... and now you're here with me
I feel happy, my eyes spirited
in the cool moonlight of a field
I notice our long shadows
walking hand in hand
understand the meaning
feel the warmth of your touch
in my touch
connected
sharing all these paths with me
cannot find the right words to say
how much you mean to me
so I squeeze your hand
speak to you with my touch
