Light and shade

Clouds came and went; I had no hand in it-
I had been marooned in azure plains where,
bleached profundity in blue, all became
burned by constancy of colour. All view
scorched with no reprieve from angles,
unmitigated light repudiating shadows, values, tones.
Collisions of primaries clashed, splashing, exploding,
lacking elegance, purging nuance, revealing void.
By night, I tossed and turned abandoned there,
dreaming of half-light, hue, and tint, and-
longing for nurture.
I waited for my clouds-
I had no hand in it.
