Make Me A Cake by Neil McCall
Make me a cake
which will shudder my arteries
with 70 per cent cocoa,
the butter we’ve shunned,
white flour fit only for rats.
Make me a cake
for an inbetween season
a smack in the eye
for the Puritan soul
landlording it over my body
Make me a cake
sleek-sided and wicked
deserving a fate
to be hewn into pieces
and scattered like deadly confetti
Make me a cake
which will landfill my stomach
dripfeeding cholesterol
a slice of bad fortune
depleting my life by the mouthful
Make me a cake
and we’ll eat it together
when I reach expiry date
on the post-mortem
the doctor will write: “Death By Chocolate”.
