This morning I listened to "Start the Week". They were talking
about the incomprehensibility of science. Because most people
Do not understand maths. As a child maths was my favourite
subject. As a woman I have almost been made to feel ashamed of
this by the "Art Establishment." I wonder why this is.
A thought struck me. A picture conveys more than a thousand
words in the arts. In the same way a mathematical equation
conveys more than a thousand words in science. So I wonder why
scientists who write "popular science" are almost afraid to
use a mathematical equation. As a result there words become
incomprehensible. The mathematical equation needs to brought
bewick as part of everyone's education. We will be lost
without it.
x = Asin2(pi)vt desribes a sine wave. Sine waves or simple
harmonic motion is very common in nature. Go on. Look it up.
