Midnight Love
All through each semester
I shared her darkest fears
Confident, counsellor, seer and friend
I never left her side
But I couldn't see it coming
A power that overwhelmed us
Emotions overpowered us both
Treading, stumbling, weaving on
She and I pressed on, uncertain
Not the numbing lack of light
That made us hesitate and falter
On that strangely darkened night
In our hearts that night
We knew for certain
A love, never spoken,
Never actioned
Had, in that mortal moment
To be given final broken-hearted rites
