Quay

Walking home on school days
Sammy and I
would always walk the quay.

Watching the boats un-net their fish,
the fishermen would shout
stay away from the side boys
it's slippy and wet
and the water will suck you down
and you will drown.

I tried to reach Sam's hand
from the side of the quay but the water
pulled Sam down
and sucked him away.
