Rebel Child

Rebel Child
Your macho swagger hides what's deep inside.
That vulnerable child stays concealed,
Hated, scorned by a darkened id.
The vow you made so long ago
To never hurt again
Is now fuelled by self-perpetuated hate.
Feelings that tore your soul apart,
Now lay bound, no more to speak.
In your gang you feel so tall,
But that lonely boy still stalks your every step.
Every helpless victim that you strike
Bears the face of that lonely child.
In bitterness and confused resentment
Defiant at every rule.
You strike back at the ordered world.
The world that bore you and gave you so much pain.
The watching guardians shake their heads
In sad and knowing ways.
A generation long forgotten
Saw you forefather walk that very road.
