Ten Years On

It's been ten years; but still can't see,
What it is I still believe,
I still love you Nanny Connie,
First I was told my real Nan was forced,
To work for Hitler; getting Jews through the doors,
Then I found out she chose to do it,
Moving around after sending them to the pit,
Only you knew the big family secret,
Took it to the grave where you would keep it,
You were the only Nan I ever had,
Adopted Nan for 17years; I am very glad,
Nanny Connie you were the best,
10 years now you've been at rest,
Time goes fast you can't complain,
Good and bad times; you can't explain,
Mum is up there with you now,
The truth I hope she has now found,
Family tree in the Austrian Embassy,
What you say; the truth she'll see,
I still remember all the times,
Going through Weston Woods upon hikes,
Bensons cheese and onion crisps,
Tasted even better than frisps,
You even made it on TV,
That hospital programme on BBC,
You were really chuffed about this,
I recorded it so not to miss it,
I remember ten years ago that dream I had,
A big round wheel in the field; which was mad,
Christmas lights shaped like Santa, trees and a snowman,
A car drew up and out you got Nan,
I gave you a big hug as it was plain to see,
Whilst in the backround was Bon Jovi's 'Thank You For Loving Me',
I went out on that fateful night,
Kicking a ball against a wall; with no one insight,
Thought I would cheer myself up,
If I missed the wall then you could give up,
If I hit the ball at the wall with all might,
Then everything would be alright,
I knew that I couldn't miss,
Ran up and gave the ball a kick,
Can't explain what had happened; ball hit the kerb and I had missed,
Went back inside with the ball,
Then just ten minutes later we had that fateful call,
Yours was the first funeral I ever went to,
There has been many many ever since you,
Hopefully now this is it,
Not looking down as I near the top of the pit,
Ten years of bad luck hopefully running out,
As 2011 gives out a shout.
Dedicated to my Nan, Connie Irene Johnson, 6th Oct 1925 - 13th Dec 2000
