Tropical rain

Vapors of steam belly dance their way across the hot asphalt stage
Wet earth odors fill nostrils like keys in rusted locks
A symphony of droplets trickles through the savannah grass
Bleeding green on errant schoolboys’ uniforms
Tiny bare feet find joy splashing in ragged pothole puddles
Flash filled with crystal waters of liquid sun
Mud powered swells push their paper boats down roadside drains
through stick carved rivers flowing in valleys of backyard dirt
The quicksilver sun splashed rain delivers its gifts of joy
And like childhood is too soon gone.
