Turn Worm Turn

Turn my eyes inward
I need to see
that worm of discontent
that's eating me.

I feel frustrated
with anger gnawing.
try for reason
but the contempt is scoring

Need to understand
why I feel as I do
what’s making me hate
all the things you do?

Turn my eyes inward
But there's nothing to see
the worm is invisible
leastwise to me…

Perhaps I'm the worm!
Now, there’s a thought…
silly little drudge
who needs to be taught
how to turn,
take a bite
at my tormentor
instead of being polite.
