We do it to ourselves you know the old man said to me,
We run around in circles - instead of living free.
Instead of working together - reaching out a helping hand
We compete, one with the other, for money, power and land.
We run around like greyhounds chasing electric hares.
Thinking if we catch one it will answer all our prayers.
Running round at breakneck speed - trying to win the race.
No time to look around, or rest, must keep the hectic pace.
The Dog race is like the Rat Race, but now it's faster run.
Dog eat dog, and what is worse - we're told we're having fun.
Never questioning for who we run - or why we run at all.
We keep on running round and round - till in the end we fall.
These dreams we're chasing after - like stardom, fame or wealth.
Empty prizes that can't compare - to freedom, love and health.
Yet still we keep on running and forget our saintly face.
Just too selfish, proud and greedy to make it a human race!
***Just a note for those who have never been to the dogs.
The hare is an electric motor, covered with a bit of rabbit scented skin, that runs on a rail at the edge of the track.
It is very rare that a dog ever catches the 'hare' and even rarer that it's bright enough to realise it is all a con :O).
Fortunately greyhounds have short memories and are very competitive.
