The Long Road

The road is long and dusty, and I walk
along with a view
One of weeds with roots of deceit, garbage
along the road way
And I travel without a sound as if I am in
some sort of vacuum
I pass those who do not look at me, as if I
do not exist
The sun hangs in the sky and blares its
unrelenting message…
One of power and control
I stop, wipe the sweat from my eyes,
I look all around me
and see nothing of merit
My laughter echo’s in the vast, open,
hollow world
and comes back to me as a madman’s cry
Damn You!!!
Such empty promises, so many of them
They bounce around like falling stars
in a black, desert sky
So brilliant, only to fizzle and leave no trace
of physically being there, only distorted
images in ones mind
I scan the horizon and all I see is forsaken
land, desolate and dry
This is the Long Road, only the sad, and
lonely traverse here for it is the only way
to get to places like Peace, and Harmony,
and if you follow it to the end,
Happiness , my destination, my dream
I pray for strength because there seems
to be a lot of road left to travel,
and oh the sun!
