Like Any Six-Year Old

I remember that day
A hot summer afternoon
Or summer-like afternnoon
The "when" forever lost
In childlike glee I went
In childlike glee I played
Outside
Into the yard
I rode my bike
Like any six-year old
Young and so carfree
Sometimes we know of dangers
But alas, we let them be
At one moment was enjoyment
Now realisation as I lay
On top
A beast started biting at me
On that hot, summer day
I held his throat with all my strength
With all a child could make
I saw a few pots nearby
The beast stunned
A chance I must take
I ran and cried
For my caretakers
But alas, they could not hear
I ran towards the back gate
The dog just by my rear
He had overtaken me
Before I knew it
But my mind saw a chance
Seeing the front door unguarded
I ran without a backward glance
Safe inside
I wash the marks
The scratches on my arms and chest
After this I told no one
Thinking it was for the best
Few years later
Life went on
Sickness
Struck and took his life
But we became friends
And made good memories
In those times
He was still alive
For that past thing
He'd done to me
Long have I forgave
Everyday I see two stones
Across my house
The stones that mark his grave
