“You’re quiet.” Aren said softly, walking up to the princess. “I’m sorry about earlier. We definitely got off to a bad start.”
Erin did not answer. She looked straight at the path without turning.
“Look, I said I was sorry.” Aren persisted, walking a bit closer. “It’s just that we didn’t expect to have the princess as one of our comrades in this quest. Are you still mad at me?”
Erin stopped finally, her eyes straight at Aren, piercing, sharp. “Look, sir know-it-all, I am well capable of taking care of myself. I don’t need some blabbermouth knightling to keep an eye on me, and if you have any doubts concerning that, I will be very glad to complete this quest on my own!”
“Typical.” Shiro spoke finally. “We cannot bear to have that happen, princess. Like I said, your father will have our heads if anything happens to you, thus complicating this already difficult task. You will endure our presence, whether you like it or not.”
The princess glared at Shiro again, but this time she kept quiet. Aren gave a deep sigh, as though he was already exhausted even before the quest has begun. “Look, the town is close.” He pointed. “We can get supplies and horses there. Everyone stick together.”
