Safety

i once rested in a coffin made of glass
i could never sleep
but i was safe
the glass kept me separate
the glass let me keep watch
but i was young and i did not know
that glass can shatter
slicing and stinging
i built a fortress
stone walls so smooth and strong
no glass to be found
but i was young and did not know
that stone can crumble
cutting and crushing
i climbed a tree
thick with foliage
hidden in its depth
no glass or stone to be found
but i was young and i did not know
that trees can fall
bruising and breaking
i am old and now i know
no glass, stone, or wood
can keep me safe
only I can do that.

Wow, this was powerful, the
Wow, this was powerful, the fragility of life, of our precious self/soul we protect it from the world, want to keep safe, cocooned, but the world is where we grow, good and bad experiences shape us and with each fall your subject grew, learned and tried again...I loved the starkness of feelings in this and the wise conclusion in the end.
Well done.
