I'll prove it!

Chapter One:
I lay under my bed. The sound of the witch’s heels on the concrete steps forewarned me of her presence. I could hear each click, marching defiantly towards me. I held my breath as the door opened, and I watched those black, pointed, high heels, pace around the room. The smell of the witch’s potion brewing on the hob downstairs made my stomach churn. I closed my eyes and wished for the power of invisibility. The sound of footsteps ceased, so I opened my eyes. To my horror the face of the witch was inches away from mine! My blood ran cold and I shrieked in horror. The witch’s green eyes seemed to glow red with anger as she said those fateful words.....
“I’ve called you a dozen times and you’ve just ignored me. Then I come upstairs and find you hiding under the bed! This is ridiculous! Now wash your hands and come down for dinner immediately!” With downcast eyes and hateful mutterings under my breath, I reluctantly followed my step-mother out of my bedroom. By the time I sat down to eat I was fuming. I wanted to complain to my dad, I wanted to shout out; “How dare she come into my domain and demand me to wash my hands twice over? What does it matter if I didn’t use soap the first time?” But I bit my tongue to stop the words from popping out. I knew it would result in punishment. I knew my dad would side with her because he always did! It wasn’t his fault though, so I didn’t blame him. My dad was in a trance you see, and I told him so but he didn’t listen. He still went ahead and married the witch regardless of what I did to prevent it from happening! I was powerless to intervene, and now I had to bide my time and gather the evidence I needed to split them up for good. Evidence was always discounted or disproved, but I knew better. I knew the truth, and one day I’d make sure my dad knew it too!
Downstairs at the dinner table I was forced to listen to trivial chit chat. Nothing that wicked witch Sue said would be of any interest to me. I pretended to listen but instead I looked over her shoulder and out of the window. The sun was setting and the beams of light were making dust particles sparkle as they danced about in the air. A loud cough roused me from my dream like state. I put my head down and looked at my plate in disgust. “Why did there have to be so many vegetables?” I thought to myself. There must have been every vegetable known to man on my plate, (and probably some witchy ones that had never seen a supermarket shelf too). I poked a purple thing with my fork and grimaced. “It won’t kill you! It’s just an aubergine, why don’t you try a little bite?” Sue said as sweetly as she could. “But... it... it’s.....purple! It must be witch food!” I said angrily. “Carrots used to be purple you know” replied Sue. I glared at her and ground my teeth together. “It’s true they were purple and they were modified to become orange,” Sue continued. I didn’t stop staring. I wanted her to know that she was not welcome and I would never be her friend, not in a million years. Sadly Sue seemed unfazed and she busied herself eating her meal in silence. I turned to dad and asked him why we had to eat healthy food. We had eaten junk food for years after mum died, and then suddenly this witch imposes herself on the household and forces me to eat purple food!! I was indignant and refused to eat a bite. Instead I asked to be excused and sneaked into the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich whilst they were busy eating. With real food in my hand, I bolted out of the back door to my friend’s house.
