The Little Ghost That Sat All Alone
By beautiful oblivion

The chill in the air seemed oddly inviting to the little ghost that sat all alone. Being without skin, the ghost could actually feel the breeze blow through him. But as the little ghost sat there on his tombstone, he felt very sad, because he knew the wind was his only friend. None of the other spooks wanted to play with him, cause they said he wasn’t scary enough. The little ghost couldn’t even scare away a small squirrel from a tree. But it wasn’t the ghost’s fault. He was just so young when he died. He wanted to be friends with the other spirits, but no one would accept him. So the little ghost buried his ghost head in his ghost hands and wished he had a friend.
The wind blew against the little ghost that sat all alone in a way that said ‘I am here; I will be your friend.’ But this did not make the ghost feel better. He wanted someone he could talk to and who would talk back. And besides, the big ghosts would just laugh at the little ghost for talking to the wind.
Then suddenly the wind changed. at first the little ghost that sat all alone thought he had upset the breeze, but the chill never left him, just changed somehow. The ghost looked up to see what had caught the wind’s attention and saw a young girl walk into the cemetery. She looked to be about the same age the little ghost was when he was alive. But this young girl seemed sick. He skin was pale and she was shaking. The ghost could see she wasn’t wearing a coat and didn’t have any shoes. The little ghost floated up to the trees above her and listened as she whispered through her tears.
“Oh Wind, I am sick. Ma and Pa keep telling me I will get better, but I know that’s not so. I have a fever, but I can’t seem to keep warm. I would love just a small blanket, but we cannot afford it. I hate to see mommy cry, and daddy is working so hard to get me medicine. Please Wind, if you would just help make this pain go away. I don’t want to be sick anymore. Please mighty Wind, please help me to feel better, and help my ma to stop crying.”
Everything stood really still for a moment, and the little ghost that sat all alone wondered if the wind had stopped blowing altogether to make the young girl warm. But just then, the breeze picked up and circled the young girl. It blew around and around her, and the little ghost could see the girl holding her bare arms and shivering. The wind blew faster and faster, and the little ghost became very scared. He did not know what the wind was doing, but he wanted to help the girl. So the ghost flew into the breeze and wrapped his arms around the young girl.
Right then, the wind stopped blowing and the little ghost that sat all alone looked at the young girl. But the girl looked different. Her skin was no longer there. The ghost could see right through her. The young girl was also not shivering anymore, and suddenly the little ghost knew what happened. The wind had made the young girl feel better; she was no longer sick.
The young girl looked at the little ghost and smiled. “Hi.” She said. “Would you like to be my friend?”
The little ghost paused and felt something strange. The wind was slowly going away. And as it brushed the ghost’s back one last time, it seemed to say ‘Do not be sad anymore, I have given you a friend who can talk to you.’ and at that the ghost smile, because he knew he would no longer be the little ghost that sat all alone.
