Down in the Valley

The need to live
won't stop me
feeling suicidal,
for instance,
fear of facing death
only wakes the will to live.
It doesn't take away
the lack of something
real to live for,
or fill the emptiness,
or take away the hopelessness
of what we are about to face.
Looking down into that valley,
my fear warns me to stand,
and while my waning courage
urges me to jump
into the darkness,
deep inside my soul
I know I won't;
I wouldn't be allowed to
go out, flying in the face of love.

This seems not just a
This seems not just a beautiful but a gutsy poem. The last line filled me with hope somehow. xx

Bee, you have highlighted
Bee, you have highlighted beautifully our rather perverse feelings about living and dying. Some of us are fortunate to have a face of love to fly into or at least it's visible to us. Lovely piece x

You confront real feelings
You confront real feelings and deal with them in this, ultimately, hopeful poem. Important things said.

A very strong message
In this poem, not least it touched me on a very personal basis this past weekend. Luckily I can breath a big sigh and tell myself all's well that ends well, but the line
fear of facing death
only wakes the will to live.
is very poignent not just for me, but for all living creatures.
Thanks

The sense of the possibility
The sense of the possibility or being of some use to someone else sometime is what helps to renew a sense of purpose, something to live for, isn't it? and as you seem to end, some sense of others' love, – and maybe of God's love? Rhiannon
