Moving on

When I moved into this house
Your shadow attached itself to me
And settled in too.
I searched every room,
Inside the wardrobes,
Under the eaves,
Behind the bookshelves,
Hoping I would find you.
Doors were unlocked.
Windows flung open.
I called out your name,
Impressions of you, your voice inside my head,
Until one day the birds replied,
Their songs coloured by another weather,
Notes dripping with light from a star still beating,
And I, heart silenced, listened, understood:
We cannot live hanging onto echoes,
New symphonies are waiting to be created.
