In the lands of Ertianium, peace is thought to be represented in the three gods. Septuriel; guardian of the gate, ruler over Man and Elf. Vantyre; alchemist of blood, ruler over Vampire and Batwick. Weretole; measurer of flesh, ruler over Werewolves and Weretigers.
Two farmer elves gazed over the valley watching the yearly meteor shower. One of the elves caught something in corner of his eye. He swayed his head to the right, a blood ruby meteorite sped across the night sky, it plummeted into the mountains with a monstrous crash.
'Good god, what was that!' The elf yelled.
The other Elf ran around in circles shouting, 'End of the world, ya hear me, end of the world.'
The central city of vampires and Batwicks was silent. The counts steward sprinted to the count with red sweat flooding his face.
'Oh my Count of Vampires and Batwicks, a fiery meteorite has crashed west of Shrubble tree valley. This could be the sign of death prophesized by the nine Pessimistic Lords,' he said in an impending doom tone.
The Count leant forward and licked his piercing fangs; his red eyes looked out of the window.
'Send five small legions of warriors out there and tell the Emperor over the Human and Elven border that we are sending troops,' the Count ordered.
The barracks east of the city were quiet and lights from the windows were on or off every ten minutes. Liherominus, a vampire, laid in his bed covers staring at the ceiling. His Batwick friend observed the engravings on his helmet. It had, like all traditional helmets of the Count's army for 900 years, a sword handle with upside down fangs on top of the fore head, the helmet covered the mouth with slits to breathe through. Its colours ranged between dark purple, black and silver depending on the wearer's class. Silver for warrior, dark purple for scout and black for general.
'Chiro-lar I have had an urge for some blood, I know the pillars satisfy us and protect us from the sun, but can't they boost the pillars so I get more blood,' Liherominus urged to his Batwick friend.
'No, and if I did I wouldn't be talking about it, I would be boosting the pillars,' Chiro-lar replied.
The pillars were large anonymous objects created at the end of the Great War of Bolstan. This was the time when Vampires, Werewolves/tigers and Batwicks were hellish monsters. The final battle was ended in Bolstan, but the Humans and Elves needed to satisfy the others' lusts for blood and flesh. So the pillars were created, they satisfied their lusts and even protected vampires from sunlight.
The barrack officer strode in the bedrooms with his usual stern face.
'Soldiers its time to get up, we received orders from the Count to investigate Shrubble tree valley,' he shouted.
Liherominus grunted and reached for his gleaming silver armour, it clanged as it bashed against his bed. Every soldier marched out of the city, their footsteps pattered like heavy hail. An hour later they arrived at Shrubble tree valley, the shrubble trees blossomed their luminous buds like eyes peering from the dark, inquisitive but shy. The ioda frogs hopped from branch to branch, their blue skin was rough and drenched with tree sap and the single leg they hopped on furiously, stretched and contracted. Liherominus grabbed some of the glowing fruit from the branches before sucking their sweet rich juice.
Two men behind him were gossiping rumours.
'Bet you this is the work of treasonous necromancers. I heard they capture and torture Weretigers,' one of them whispered.
'Yeah, if you ask me they should only let master mages learn necromancy,' the other replied.
Necromancy was a darker form of magic developed by the ancient Counts of the Cinder lands, the magic based on sacrifices for energy. It is still legal and is open to the public to learn as long as it is practiced outside cities and that only wild creatures can be sacrificed.
Liherominus knew some necromancy known as 'Phocilla Necros,' meaning; 'Vampire Necromancer.' It consisted of pouring a small amount of vampire blood on any race (except vampire) and then sprinkling some Sun-Hider flower petals on them. This turns them into vampires temporarily.
Liherominus felt faint and hot, he stooped for moment and then carried on moving. As his stepped his feet started to steam, he jumped back and his spine started to burn. He screamed in agony as the general dashed to his aid. Liherominus vision faded into a black void. He felt calm and realised he was sitting in the ruins of the old council. He couldn't move as if he was forced to the spot he was sitting on but because he had a sense that if he moved he would shatter. A dark figure stepped towards him slowly and as it moved it blurred and shimmered like a flame.
'You are the one, void gazer, there is no return,' it coldly hissed.
Before Liherominus replied he shattered and saw a light growing.
