Adam's End -London's latest art phenomenon

A London art gallery is displaying an erect penis from the body of a sex addict.
The dissected organ goes on show today at The Tat Gallery. The private gallery in Marylebone is the first in the country to obtain a licence for displaying human tissue in public.
Critics say the exhibit, supported by the Government’s watchdog, The Human Parts Authority, pushes the boundaries of decency in the name of art and called the public display of the penis ‘an overblown disappointment’.
Fellatia Gettin-Mekecks, of feminist folk magazine, Nuke All Men, described the phallus as ‘a letdown. It left me deflated and angry. There’s no way I’d have been able to take one as big as that. I’m calling my brief for emotional scarring and post-traumatic stress.’
It comes just days after artist Damien Hirst attracted protests over his latest work – the diamond-encrusted sculpture of a week’s worth of excrement from the world’s fattest Border Collie, Supper.
Human penises have previously been displayed at research institutes but this is the first time a private gallery has been allowed to put one on show.
The family of the sex addict, who refused to attend the private view, have asked to remain anonymous, although it is understood they consented to the penis being shown.
The sex addict, a former escort to novice hurdlers from the stables of top trainers, volunteered to donate his penis after digesting the perhaps misguided advice from the dubious Dr Dick Van Winkle that this may well arrest his unearthly urges. Speaking from his hospital bed, he said: ‘When Winkle explained that I had an illness that could never be cured, it made perfect sense to lop the bastard thing off and put an end to it. Having that thing was nothing but a pain in the arse, a noose around my neck. They might call me The Stump now but it’s better than being called as The Snake for the rest of my life.’
The exhibition, ‘Adam’s End’, features the work of trendy Hoxton art-duo, The Feckless, who observed the penis being cut up by Dr Van Winkle at The Sperm Bank of England, run by The Society of Pricks.
As part of the exhibition, visitors to the gallery will be able to watch a video of the penis becoming erect and dismembered after the drug-induced sex addict was shown clips of Juicy Louse (his favoured porn artiste) to the latest smash-hit ‘Get It In Me Now!’ by teeny-pop sensation, N’Trails.
Conservative MP, Dylan Doe, a former member of The Society of Pricks and the health select committee, said in a statement: ‘This is obviously another marketing tool for the art world to gorge upon. It’s one thing if this is done in a laboratory, but it’s degrading to put a winky on display in a public place. In my personal opinion, I’d much rather watch smut like this at home with some vulnerably-housed tarts’.
But Dr Van Winkle today rejected claims that it was in bad taste to display the penis, which has been preserved in a family-sized glass container of lime marmalade.
He said: ‘There’s a lot of mystique about the penis and this raises awareness about what happens when someone uses it without thinking of long-term consequences.
‘This has been done in a tasteful and deliberately non-Damien Hirst way.’
Dr Van Winkle revealed that regulators are considering the relaxation of laws which require a licence for the public display or storage of any human tissue from a person obtained after 2006.
Last year, The Tat Gallery displayed pubic hair in the shape of a love-heart around a police truncheon as part of an exhibition by conceptual artist, Richard Head.
The Tat Gallery’s curator Dickie Diver said he liked to generate a debate around displaying the human penis. ‘As long as it’s done in a dignified way and we have consented, then it’s acceptable. Besides, people are so blind and tasteless that they’d happily eat crap if I told them it was chocolate mousse.’
‘Adam’s End’ has caused such a stir in the art world that a frenzied private bidding war between The Vaginal Foundation and The British Museum is already underway. The Government believes this is an opportunity not to be missed.
Liberal Democrat MP, Rosie Hornblower, said: ‘This penis is a symbol of hope for all males who can still get an erection and put it to good use, such as masturbation. Although this exhibit will probably be remembered as a symbol of twenty-first century emasculation, it may also stand out as a timely warning against the sins of sexual predation. Even with the country in deep recession, I think £6 million is a snip for this masterpiece.’
