Cancelled in the afterlife

Maybe now she’s seen me in my own juice
sat about picking my nose swearing at the news
she doesn’t want to know me.
The other year I bumped into one of her close friends
another hanger on but a long-standing one.
When she asked if she’d visited me yet
I shook my head and she looked miffed
like it was my fault.
Maybe it is. But screw her.
She never once went to visit
when she was put into care.
That one was always banging on about spirituality.
Maybe she should have had a real son
a good son
someone to take her right to the end
but I’m just a bad boy
no holding back
just a messy life in a messy world
seeing it all in its spawning destruction
and laughing all the way to the pub.
One thing of which I’m certain
is that I will remain a bad boy.
I have no choice in the matter and anyway
why be correct when they’re in it up to their necks?
Now she’s seen how I carry on
how I get by as a helpless joking ape
is she so appalled by her lifetime thoughts
that she’s relinquished all the love she held so dear? Maybe it’s gone for good, cancelled in the afterlife.
I know she can see me
because a card reader said so.
Maybe she doesn’t know who the real bad boys are. Angels rarely do, always seeing good.
Maybe she thinks I’m a waster
which isn’t untrue.
But maybe all I have to do is hang on in there
waiting for my visit
my turn to say thank you for your love
and sorry for my ills
one more time.

I liked this very much, was a bit confused by the two lots of "she" for the hanger on, and your Mum?
"visited me" implies something senses can register. But the spirit is way more than that, surely? Physical proof is for those with no faith. You have faith your Mum loves you. I am a Mum, trust me, picking your nose infront of the telly will not stop that :0) She will always love you

Oh, and I haven't forgotten Viva Nothing. I've been a bit under the cosh just lately.

"I know she can see me
"I know she can see me
because a card reader said so."
That's a perceptive poem. One that maybe says it's important to be true to ourselves whilst acknowledging how those that are close to may see us and there is often a divergence. Ultimately, which is the most important way to be? Dunno....who knows? Made me think...

A lot to ponder here; I'm still re-reading it; and it leaves me aware of how messy relationships are, not least between a mother and son.
